Happy October, everybody! It's Anna Lynn here. (How is it October already?)

As I've been driving around town in the past few weeks, I've really been appreciating the lack of smoke obstructing magnificent views. I smile when I catch a glimpse of Grand Mesa on my trip to work and I can't get enough of the San Juans on my way back into town.

I feel so lucky to live in a place where we can admire the beauty of the mountains from afar, but avoid contending with serious snowstorms all winter.

Redistricting update: The Colorado Independent Redistricting Commission finally decided on the map to submit to the State Supreme Court.

Montrose is a part of the 3rd Congressional District, where the boundaries have not changed that much. CD-3 remains a strong Republican stronghold with a 9-point advantage.

But nothing is finalized, yet — the court could face legal challenges from a plethora of political advocacy groups and could enlist the commission to re-draw the boundaries.

More on that from the Colorado Sun!

River Valley Family Health Center gets federal award: The local clinic was one of only 3 federally qualified clinics from around the state that managed to increase their patient base during 2020.

The clinic was also one of three federally qualified health centers in the state to be recognized as a Gold Level Health Center Quality Leader, putting it in the top 10% of all such centers nationally for clinical quality measure performance. It's the fourth year in a row River Valley nabbed the honor.

Spicy football game tonight: MHS, which has on a winning streak since the season started, is playing another hitherto undefeated team on the Front Range. The game at Palmer Ridge HS in Monument is starting at 6 p.m. tonight.

If you want to watch the game, it's probably a little too late to get there in person, but you can pay to livestream it here. If you don't want to shell out $11 to watch the game live, you can also read sports writer Josue Perez's write-up in tomorrow's paper!
