Good afternoon! Josue here bringing you today's newsletter. This past weekend, I went to the theater and saw "Venom: Let There Be Carnage." It was great being back at the cinema, and it was somewhat packed, though not at pre-pandemic levels.
It reminded me of the current moviegoing landscape, which I highlighted in this story regarding a potential reopening of the San Juan Cinema, a venue I remember going to almost every weekend growing up in Montrose. There's a chance it could reopen, but business needs to pick up, and hopefully the movie release schedule levels itself out.
There's plenty of great films coming out this holiday season, so if you're up for it, and feel safe doing so, head to the Fox Theater and support your local theater.
Fun on tap: Oktoberfest is back and will be held at the Rotary Amphitheater in Cerise Park this Saturday from 1 to 6 p.m. The event will also serve as Montrose's first look at the highly anticipated Rotary Amphitheater. The Oompah Band, Cousin Curtiss, Zolopht and Iron Horse are scheduled to perform and get first dibs on breaking in the stage and energizing the local crowd.
In case you missed it: My colleague Anna Lynn wrote a story on how MCSD will pick new mascots for Montrose High School and Centennial Middle School.
One key component: the new mascots are likely to be decided on before the Dec. 14 school board meeting, but any change likely won't happen until the school year is over.
Talent all-around: The Montrose High School boys golf team just finished its 2021 season, placing eighth as a team at the 4A state tournament.
Jake Legg (above) had a strong two-day run, finishing with a score of 161. Noah Richmond led MHS with a 145 score after carding a 77 on Monday and 68 on Tuesday.
If you see Jake, Noah or any other of the team members around, offer a congratulations on their season!
