Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

We're actually halfway through the month - interestingly, Hispanic Heritage Month begins Sept. 15 and ends Oct. 15. The timing may seem unorthodox, but there's good reason for it. The dates coincide with five Hispanic countries (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua) that declared independence from Spain on Sept. 15, 1821.

It's been amazing learning more about the diverse cultures within Hispanic heritage (including my own as I've reconnected with my heritage). If you had the chance to attend Montrose's first Culture Fest last weekend (thrown by Hispanic Affairs Project and hosted by the Ute Indian Museum), you likely saw the vibrant colors, food and music firsthand!

Scholarship alert:

Colorado high school seniors can apply to become a 2023 Daniels Scholar and receive up to $100,000 towards their college degree. Interested students can apply here by 4 p.m. MST on Oct. 15 to be considered for the scholarship.

The Daniels Scholarship Program provides the opportunity for students to attend the college of their choice. The scholarship, based on financial need, provides up to $100,000 to attend any two- or four-year nonprofit, accredited college or university in the United States. Earlier this year, the Daniels Fund awarded scholarships to 226 Daniels Scholars – including 130 from Colorado.

Have a great weekend!

ImageMontrose Police Facility Grand Opening.

Today I attended the Montrose Police Departments new facility grand opening ceremony and tour. Katharhynn and Cassie are combining for a story that will be in tomorrow's edition. The facility is awesome and moves Montrose law enforcement to the front of the class.
Governor Polis was a surprise guest speaker but Chief Blaine Hall's words hit home the most. It was a lot of work on his part and the City to get this facility completed. There were lots of smiles from those who were instrumental in pushing through the public safety tax initiative. Montrose has something it can be very proud of for many years.

Broncos Game
I attended the game between the Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers Sunday night. It was so much fun. For three quarters the defenses dominated. The home crowd booed loudly when the Broncos offensive left the field each time they came up empty handed.
I've been to a game at Lambeau field to see my Packers play and I thought it was loud there. It was nothing compared to Empower Field at Mile High. I couldn't hear my buddy who was sitting next to me when the crowd was at full throat.
That was quite an experience.
In case you missed it Broncos won 11-10.
