To give is to love
As much as the holiday season is known for compassion and community connection (that's a lot of c's, isn't it?) people don't stop caring for each other in the warmer months, either. A while back I got to chat with the three main quilting groups in town, and one thing I learned that they have in common (besides quilting) is a generous spirit. Columbine Quilters, Friendship Quilters of Western Colorado, and San Juan Quilters all donate a good chunk of their fabric, thread, and time to creating goods for multiple causes, such as pillowcases for deployed soldiers or knitted hats for newborns. I also have been seeing lots of volunteer and charity events popping up in our Coming Up section everyday. In fact, this last Monday I got to join the Montrose Woman's Club for their monthly meeting. Why? Because they raised $4,000 to give to nine different local non-profits. This is the first year since the pandemic that the club has been able to host their annual fundraisers in order to bring back this tradition of giving. Look for my coverage of the heartwarming act in one of our upcoming issues. These stories remind me that, no matter how you do it, help and compassion never go unnoticed. - I hope you have a restful weekend, Rhiannon (Speaking of giving, Oak Grove teachers Carin Beshoar and Julie Vigil have worked hard to create a farm and outdoor learning space for their students. Local businesses/groups such as Alpine Bank and Montrose Hardware have donated resources and funds to help make this possible. Oak Grove held a ceremony thanking these sponsors and opening the farm Monday, May 15. (Rhiannon Bergman/Montrose Daily Press)
