| | Garden party, anyone? Along with a bad case of spring fever, I've been dealing with severe allergies all week. But the never-ending sneezes, growing piles of tissues, watering eyes, and costly allergy medications are 100% worth it now that I'm not freezing on the drive to work, waiting for my car's heater to kick in. I've even heard people talk about Fourth of July plans already. I may not be that eager, however, to skip over the moderate temperature and colorful blooms of late spring. Plus, gardening season is in full swing now. The Montrose Botanic Gardens launched their roses with a workshop on how to properly prune and take care of them Wednesday. During the program local garden gurus even gave me some gardening tips. Tomorrow, May 6, at 10 a.m. is a Walking Tour where you can view the Botanic Gardens in their springtime glory while learning about which plants do best on the Western Slope. And if that isn't enough, the summer Montrose Farmers' Market returns this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on S. Uncompahgre Ave., Centennial Plaza, and S. First St. It's their 45th anniversary, so go celebrate by buying some fresh produce from local growers. — Have a sneeze-free weekend and remember to amend your soil! -Rhiannon Paige Payne of Online Landscape Designs spoke to a small crowd at the Montrose Botanic Gardens Launching of the Roses event this week. Report on Montrose's housing needs This Monday, the city held an open house to share the results of a housing needs report that focuses specifically on Montrose. The consulting group, Points Consulting, that is working on the report says it is almost finished. Planning manager for the city Jace Hochwalt says it should be available in the next three weeks; once done it can be found on the City of Montrose's website. You can check out my coverage of the open house here. Get your lawn in gear — subscribe here! Beautify your lawn with the Montrose Daily Press and Olathe True Value.
