Remembering the joy of reading... This week's @Your Library column in our Thursday Arts & Entertainment section revolved around the different ways someone may first fall in love with reading. Whether you first reached for the bookshelf as a young child, or whether it took a college course for you to find a book that you actually enjoyed, the column is inspirational for how it reminds us it's never too late to give reading another try. Aside from getting to explore new worlds, or learning something new about this one, the column also paints how reading creates memories for us that wouldn't have happened otherwise. This column is written by Shiloh Warthen, a member of the Montrose Regional Library's Teen Advisory Board. Warthen's musings remind me why I fell in love with reading and writing at a young age... they also remind me how long it has been since I've sat down and read without deadlines, guidelines, or goals. I mean, when was the last time you read something just for the heck of it? Check out this week's @Your Library column here. Also, keep an ear and eye out for Montrose Regional Library's summer programs this year... there just might be an article in the paper about them in next week's A&E section. - I hope you have a weekend that allows time for a chapter or two, Rhiannon A close up of a quilt made by Margaret Noah, a member of the Friendship Quilters of Western Colorado, which can be found hanging in the Montrose Regional Library. An ode to my mother
Speaking of the power of books, the woman who passed on to me a love of reading is my mother. When I was sick of reading the same old book series in second grade (it was Magic Treehouse by the way) she was the one who lent me her copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. To this day she is still my favorite person to talk to about what I'm reading. She is also a great listener, secret keeper, and friend. Be sure to wish a "Happy Mother's Day" to the mother, or strong female figure, whose impacted you this weekend! Get your lawn in gear — subscribe here!
