Where does news come from?

Jeremy Morrison
Each day, news happens. But where does it come from?

Short answer: us, the Montrose Daily Press, your community newspaper.

Long answer: you, the reader and members of this community, who each day weave the tapestry that we'll work to stitch together and present back to you.

Here's where I'm going with this: you depend on us to give you the news, but we depend on you to give it to us first.

On that note, I would like to invite you to let us know when something is happening which you feel is newsworthy. Do you have a club of some kind that meets regularly? Is your new business holding a ribbon cutting? Community networking opportunities? Concerts or recreational opportunities? We want to know about all of this — so we can in turn relay that information to the rest of the community.

The relationship between a community newspaper and the community is a symbiotic one. The newspaper is a reflection of a community just as much as it is a reportage on a community. Without input from and engagement with the community, we may as well put out a paper full of wingdings and doodles.

So, if you have some news to pass along, please contact us and let us know. There's a link in this email by which you can contact the paper with news, or you can do so here, or if you'd rather, send us an email to editor@montrosepress.com.

We're looking forward to hearing from you!

Have a Good One,

Jeremy Morrison,
managing editor

Rides worth the drive: guide to mountain biking in the Grand Valley

It's been a long winter, and with the occasional flurry still gracing Montrose, sometimes it feels like it's not quite over. But the sun is coming around, and for many of us it's time to hang up the skis and snowboards for the season and break out the bikes. About an hour north of Montrose, in the Grand Valley, trailheads are already packed on weekends, and when the weather is just right, it feels like summer.
