Summer's on!

Summer is here, and though it's been a long, long time since I enjoyed that pure youthful glee of students shifting gears from their school year and into three months of sunshine and good times, I still get pretty excited about the season.

Though my summer days are filled with work, just like the rest of the year — if anything the days become a bit more intense, as my kids are out of school — I still find myself getting excited for the season for a few main reasons, top among them exploring the outdoors and enjoying live music.

This week, reporters Rhiannon Bergman and Kylea Henseler explored both those fronts, mapping out summer options for both camping and live music on the Western Slope.

When looking for places to camp, the possibilities are many. Rhiannon detailed a handful, letting readers know about the options within the Curecanti National Recreation Area, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Ridgeway State Park and Silverjack.

Insofar as live music goes, the region is brimming with opportunities this summer. Kylea focused on free concerts — there are several concert series throughout the summer in the region — and detailed music slated for Ouray, Delta, Hotchkiss, Paonia and Ridgeway.

So, even if you're well past your schools-out-for-summer prime, it's that time of year — the weather's nice, the mood is (vicariously) mellow — to get out and have some fun!

Have a Good One,

Jeremy Morrison,

Sunset sounds: Free concert series worth stopping by
It might be too late to snag tickets for Taylor Swift's sold-out show in Denver, or too expensive to snap up passes for the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. But there's still plenty of free music to be heard this summer, as several smaller concert series are scheduled for sunset all over the Western Slope.
