What's happening, Montrose?

Image

Hiya friends,

This heat is hurting my feelings, but seeing so many of you guys out and about, enjoying the outdoors and connecting is well worth it.

When I first moved to Montrose just four years ago, I remember hearing a common refrain: There's nothing to do!

Well, we can't say that anymore, can we?

Montrose Summer Music Series organizer Dave Bowman reckons upwards of over 3,000 people stopped by the summer's first free concert last Friday - and I believe it.

Bywater Call was an incredible headliner for this first concert, as well! You can read my interview with lead singer Meghan Parnell here.

This community newsletter is made just for you! Do you have any suggestions on how we can make these emails even better, or just want to say hello? Feel free to shoot me an email anytime at cassiek@montrosepress.com. I'd love to hear from you!

Headlines

U.S. 550 crash victims were identified

Many in our community are grieving the loss of two Montrose women who died in a crash on U.S. 550 last week.

While thoughts aren't enough, mine go out to the families, friends and loved ones of Candace Smith and Trinity Hasse, who lost their lives on June 6 in a horribly unnecessary accident.

Colorado State Patrol is still investigating the incident, and are looking at excessive speed as a possible factor.

Please, stay safe on the road, folks. The cost of speeding on our mountain roads is higher than any of us want to pay.

Montrose welcomed its first Pride celebration

Image

Cerise Park had a quick turnaround from Friday's concert to Saturday's first Pride celebration. There was lots of love, laughter, music and food to go around!

Several community partners had booths with resources and information, and food trucks and other local beverages were on hand as well.

Montrose Pride sponsors include the Montrose Recreation District, Montrose United Methodist Church, DED Records and ChowDown Pet Supply.

No electricity rate increases? I'll take that.

DMEA is promising another year without rate increases, and in our economy, that's a win. The co-op said this will extend into next year as well.

Community Spotlight

Chelsie De Horta crowned The Black Canyon Classic Pinup Contest Queen

Image

The Colorado Pinup Club held its first community fundraiser last Friday, offering guests a classic car show, a pinup costume contest and a Sock Hop dance - what's not to love?

Chelsie De Horta took home 1st place in the costume contest, crowned Queen for 2024. 1st runner up Amanda Nicole and 2nd runner Sierra Mae McClellan also deserve shout outs!

"What a whirlwind of a weekend!" De Horta shared on Facebook. "Still in disbelief that I won Queen of the Back Canyon Car Show with The Colorado Pinup Club and Black Canyon Classic Car Club! What an honor to be by such beautiful empowering women."
