Are you ready for the weekend?

Seems a bit early to be asking this on a Monday — and maybe borderline cruel — but we've got a boatload of things to do June 7 - 8.

Here's a humble sample:

Fine art

First Friday at Montrose Center for Arts introduces you to quilting artist Bonnie Bucknam. Bucknam's "Personal Landscapes" features abstract quilts evocative of the landscapes that inspire her. First Friday (4:30 - 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 7) is the chance to enjoy the exhibit, along with libations, light snacks and good music; the exhibit will hang through June at the center, 11 S. Park Ave.

MCA is also partnering with the car show! A pop-up show, in conjunction with the Black Canyon Classics car show, opens at 4:30 p.m. June 7 and will be on display until 4 p.m., Saturday, June 8. You can also take a look at the pristine 1955 Crown Victoria will be parked outside of MCA on Friday, during the car show's gathering on Main.

Tunes and vibes

Friday, June 7, brings back Dave Bowman's popular Montrose Summer Music Series, with Bywater Call playing the Montrose Rotary Amphitheater in Cerise Park. Gates open at 5 p.m., with music starting at 6. The One Takers will open for Bywater Call.

No coolers or alcohol are allowed at the venue.

The MSMS is a four-concert series, the first Friday of the month in June, July, August and September. If you like tunes and views, head on down to Cerise Park.

Info: 970-275-4183.

Show off your golf skills

Take a swing bright and early at the Welcome Home Alliance for Veterans' Freedom Festival golf tournament. The competition returns to The Bridges Golf & Country Club, making the 10th year of this fundraiser. Check-in is at 7:30 a.m., Saturday, June 8, with shotgun start at 9 a.m. Register a team ($125/person) at www.whafv.org. Info: 970-765-2210.

Cool rides

Enjoy hot rods, trucks, and more at Cerise Park Saturday, June 8, starting at about 8 a.m. The Black Canyon Classics Colorful Colorado Car, Truck and Rod Show will be on display until early evening, when show participants pack up and drive over to the Star Drive-In to catch flicks under the stars (about 6:30 p.m.). The car show also brings silent auctions, prize drawings, competition awards and honors scholarship recipients. Don't miss the Western Colorado Pinup Club pinup girl contest, with glammed up competitors in their fab 50s finery taking the stage between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Find the full schedule at https://tinyurl.com/blackcarclassic

Take a gander at a garden

In search of ideas for your landscaping? Just enjoy beautiful gardens? Join the Montrose Botanical Society's Home Garden Tour (self-guided with map), Saturday, June 8, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Visit five beautiful home gardens, starting at the Montrose Botanic Gardens (behind the Montrose Pavilion, 1800 Pavilion Drive), where you'll pick up a wristband and map.

The tour also features plein air artists and live musicians at several locations (harps, hammered dulcimers and — at one location — a bluegrass jam session)! Tickets $20 for Montrose Botanical Society members, $25 for non-members and $5 for children 3 to 15 years. Available at MontroseGardens.org/garden-tour or at the Botanic Gardens the morning of June 8. No pets on tour, please.

First-ever Montrose Pride

June is Pride Month and Montrose Pride welcomes you to Rainbow in the Rockies: Montrose Pride 2024, starting at 3 p.m., Saturday, June 8, at the Rotary Amphitheater in Cerise Park.

Rainbow in the Rockies celebrates pride in identity, community and the power of love. Vendors, food trucks, drag divas, music and magic await.

The Pride festival features entertainment by Verity at 3:15 p.m., then Drag by the Van Dyke Family, Kandrii Zavalla and MIX TRIX at 3:45 p.m. Bailey Carlson takes the stage at 4:30 p.m. and at 5, Tragic_x, followed again by the Van Dykes, Kandrii Zavalla and MIX TRIX, then Bailey Carlson. At 6:45 p.m., Blankslate takes the stage for some headlining magic. Closing remarks at 7:50 p.m.

Montrose Pride is committed to taking down barriers and fostering inclusivity while championing equal rights for all. Info: montrosecopride.org

Fun at the museum

The Ute Indian Museum welcomes the entire community to its Appreciation Celebration Saturday, June 8, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. This free event is at the museum, 17253 Chipeta Road, Montrose.

Hear native flute by Bobby Jemez, check out the skills of native vendors, and buy some fry bread or be sorry you didn't! There are activities and displays galore, including a bounce house, tipi-making, living history, Black Canyon Quilt club display and raffle — and do not overlook the phenomenal talent of the artists featured in the fourth annual Chipeta Art Show, which will be on display through the end of the month.

Programs begin at 10:15 a.m., with a blessing by Terry Knight, Ute Mountain Ute tribal elder, the Red Sky Drum group and dancers, also from the Ute Mountain Ute tribe; traditional dancing, storytelling, the Bear Dance and Round Dance.

At noon, join the ethnobotany tour, learning about native Ute plants and their use. At 1 p.m., Clint Charter (Cheyenne/Mohawk) presents "Life on the Plains." At 2 p.m., join museum director CJ Bradford for a guided tour of the museum.
