Un'bear'ably hot | From the Newsroom

Even bears know how to beat the heat

This weekend sure was a hot one!  Saturday brought us 92 degrees, per Accuweather, although I swear it could have passed for "110 in the shade." I slathered on sunscreen and went out to enjoy Community Appreciation Day at the Ute Indian Museum, followed by a walk through the park to check out the Black Canyon Classic Rod and Truck show. Being pale enough to pass as sentient mayonnaise, I coated myself with my 100 SPF more than once, and hopped from shaded area to shaded area.

But I think a certain bear at Ridgway Reservoir had the right idea for cooling down, though:  CPW staff tells us a visitor recorded a health-looking black bear swimming through the choppy water. Definitely not something you see every day! (Although it probably happens more often than there are cameras around to capture it.) Enjoy this still, provided by CPW spokesman John Livingston, who did not have the name of the lucky photographer.
