Time to get FUNC-y — River festival celebrates 10 years

Competitions? Yes. Music? Check. Libations and food? Of course! And a river at the center of it all? Absolutely.

Visitors and residents alike can set their calendars for FUNC Fest — Fun on the Uncompahgre — this weekend, Aug. 9 and 10, at the Riverbottom/Cerise/Baldridge parks complex.

Mountain racing in heat and smoke

A pink and orange sun is rare to see around here.
As many of you early-birds know, that is the sight which rose in the east three mornings ago.
Knowing that such a color is rare, and knowing that smoke from four regional wildfires is still being generated here in southwestern Colorado, one has to wonder: is it in my best interest to be exercising outdoors right now?
Beyond the obvious hazards associated with breathing visibly smoky air, other problems can occur. Even when the air is not visibly smoky, and may not smell like smoke, small particles from fires can create problems when breathed deeply into the lungs.

'It's time': Solar advocates press county to pass regulations

Several citizens are urging Montrose County commissioners to, after 2.5 years, pass regulations for renewable power including solar energy.
"We are the only other counties, other than Rio Blanco, that has a moratorium on solar," said Jennifer Jones, of Western Colorado Alliance.
