| Scenes from a fiesta If you were hankering for something to do this weekend and did not head over to the Monte de Rosas Fiesta, you missed out! The annual fiesta celebrates Hispanic culture and its contributions to the region. I took a wander through La Raza Park, enjoying the thumping music — although, because I dance just like a fat, middle-aged lady, I spared the public from that spectacle — and scoping out the scene. The fiesta was widely attended, and not only was there fun, food, and music, but there also was information about what Montrose and various organizations have to offer. I stopped by the Ute Indian Museum booth, where volunteers were highlighting the numbers of indigenous people who are missing and have been murdered. Mayor Dave Frank happened by at the same time, and, with many others, left a red handprint on a banner to commemorate missing and murdered indigenous women. You can learn more about missing and murdered indigenous people by clicking here. Here's a few glimpses at what was an amazing time at the fiesta. (From top: Fancy wheels and amazing artistry; people take to the dance area, and Dave Frank makes his mark on a banner commemorated missing and murdered Native peoples.) — Katharhynn, from the Newsroom. |
