What it seems vs. what it is

I learned a little lesson over the weekend — or maybe, I was reminded of one I'd supposedly learned already. I'd been eyeing a particular book at the library for a little while, and Saturday, checked it out.

It had a pink sticker on it, advising that it had to be checked out at the circulation desk. I don't know why my mind went this way, but I was almost positive the library was somehow restricting who could check it out, based on somebody's complaints. Well. No. Turns out, the book's cover had a gilt edge with actual metal in it. It interferes with the scanner used for self check-out. That's it. And, yes, I laughed at myself.

If you're curious how the library handles complaints or concerns about its collection, you can learn a little about it from this 2022 story. You can also learn more about the library at montroselibrary.org — or just stop by 320 S. Second St. I can confirm they'll be glad to fill you in! Plus, they've got programs, activities, computer access — and books! What's not to like?

— Katharhynn, from the Newsroom, hoping that you show the library some love.
