Cool time under the hot sun

Have you ever become so accustomed to something that you forget there was a time it wasn't there? For me, that's the Montrose Water Sport Park — the whitewater park at Riverbottom that fits so well into the mix, that I forgot it's only about 10 years old!

The city didn't forget, though. It celebrated that park on Friday night and Saturday with the 10th recurrence of the festival that was launched to highlight the water park and the benefits of the Uncompahgre River. The Fun on the Uncompahgre Festival — Func Fest  — is also 10 this year. It was a treat to go down and see the more coordinated among us compete at river surfing all while standing ankle deep in the cool water.

What a great way to remind us all of how important that river is, to recreation, scenic values, wildlife, and agriculture! And the best news is, if you missed Func Fest, the river itself hasn't gone anywhere. Long may it flow.
