100 YEARS LATER, ALMOST: In America, women — along with racial minorities, non-property owners and 18-year-olds — can vote, the result of amendments to the U.S. Constitution that slowly extended voting rights beyond white, propertied men.
Women and male allies advocated and agitated for the female vote in the 19th century, fighting 72 years from the Seneca Falls Convention in New York (1848), until the certification of the 19th Amendment on Aug. 26, 1920.

TRAFFIC CHANGES:The line of vehicles traveling along US 50 through Montrose has increased after the Grizzly Creek fire caused highway officials to close I-70. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is currently recommending a southern detour route due to construction projects on northern alternate routes.
While on the road, drivers should avoid using navigation apps for detours, as they can take large amounts of vehicles onto side roads that are not designed to handle heavy traffic.

SCOOP SOME SPUMONI: It's hot outside and it's the end of another week, but if you're looking for another reason to enjoy a sweet treat, how about National Spumoni Day?
The holiday is celebrated every August 21 and celebrates the Italian ice cream that originated in Naples, Italy.
Spumoni is made of layers of ice cream (typically vanilla, but sometimes chocolate) candied fruits, cherries and nuts. Pistachios and whipped cream top off the treat.
