MONTROSE FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT JOINS PINE GULCH FIRE FIGHT: The MFPD now has a three-person crew and an engine on the Pine Gulch Fire. The current crew was recently rotated to replace the crew that had been on the fire since Aug. 6. Most assignments through the cooperator agreement are for 14 days, which can be extended and in that event, crews are swapped out.

BLM RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PLAN LACKING: Conservation groups want federal courts to halt implementation of the updated Uncompahgre Field Office resource management plan that was approved in April, until there is compliance with applicable laws.
The plaintiffs argue in the filed suit that the BLM did not appropriately consider climate change in adopting the new resource management plan, and did not adequately consider the Gunnison sage-grouse.

A CAMPAIGN VISIT: John Hickenlooper, Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate, stopped by Delta County Memorial Hospital on Saturday. The former governor expressed his desire to continue the support for rural hospitals and support a plan focused on universal coverage.
