CHAINSAW ART: Nate Cochran, a Montrose-based chainsaw carver, is using his talent and gentle touch to carve shapes into stumps of wood. After graduating from Montrose High School in 2019, Cochran continued his education in Wyoming, but when the college closed during COVID-19, he began carving. So far, he's carved bears, eagles, flying eagles, a mountain lion, pitbull, moose and different assortments of custom orders. MAIL FRAUD TRIAL CONTINUED: The trial for Megan Hess and Shirley Koch, which had been set for November, is off the books until at least late spring, 2021, and — at least, tentatively — will be held in Denver instead of Grand Junction. Hess, the former owner of Sunset Mesa Funeral Directors in Montrose, and Koch, her mother, were indicted in March after a nearly two-year investigation on charges of mail fraud and illegally shipping diseased body parts. | |
