Kicked out, no graduation and dogs | From the Newsroom

Montrose City Council recently approved the submission of a grant application for the Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) Rural Economic Development Initiative (REDI) grant, which will help fund the beginning stages of the upcoming Block 93 Alley revitalization project.

KICKED OUT: Jason Epperson and his family — wife Abby and three children — arrived at San Juan RV Resort in Montrose for a six-night stay early last week. The family was enjoying what Montrose had to offer.
Little did they know their stay would end after two nights. They were kicked out after receiving a package.

POMP AND CIRCUMSTANCE, NOPE: Vista Charter School recently announced the cancellation of the commencement ceremony for the Class of 2020.
Families and students received notice via email on July 28, 16 days before graduation. According to the email, addressed by principal Emily MacNiven and the Vista staff, "I am writing to share some regrettable news. With a heavy heart, I announce to you that our graduation ceremony, postponed until August 14, will be canceled."
Some of the graduates are speaking out as families and the school organize alternative celebrations.

Court sentences Jones to 24 years in Paonia shooting death
Heather Jones, handcuffed in an orange jumpsuit, sat mostly motionless during the three-hour sentencing hearing in Delta County District Court on Friday. Jones was sentenced to 24 years for the murder of long time friend.
