It's Tuesday! Justin, writing this newsletter to you from the newsroom and thinking about the Rotary Amphitheater project at Cerise Park. I walked by there over the weekend and saw that workers had laid grass in front of the stage. It's looking close to completion. Here's a poor quality photo through the fence (I hadn't originally intended to publish it). But now you can get a feel for what a show might feel like at the venue. As of our last update, the amphitheater was scheduled for completion some time later in the fall. We will have more photos and updates in the coming weeks and months.
Fresh start: Last year was tough for all schools in the Montrose County School District, but Olathe Middle/High might have just had the worst of it. On top of dealing with a pandemic, the school discovered an asbestos problem in February that needed resolving. Principal Scot Brown is looking forward to a new (and hopefully more positive) school year. Anna Lynn had the story.
The unvaccinated in healthcare: Driving home from work yesterday, our senior writer spotted police presence and protesters outside Montrose Memorial Hospital. Many nurses protested the idea of being mandated to receive a vaccine, though there was no agenda item regarding a vaccine mandate on the hospital board's agenda last night. This all happened amid news that the FDA gave its approval for the Pfizer vaccine. To date, almost 200 million Americans have received the vaccine (either Moderna, Pfizer, or Johnson & Johnson). The news about the Pfizer vaccine should be especially welcome to those who might believe the vaccines are still "experimental." Here's a fact check showing that the vaccines are, in fact, not.
One more quick note: If you haven't already noticed, we are sending this newsletter out pretty consistently at 4 p.m. (I'm a little late today — forgive me). You can expect Monday-Friday delivery at 4 p.m., so keep an eye out for us and make this newsletter part of your daily routine.
