Good afternoon! Josue here. The City of Montrose announced earlier this week it finished upgrading the basketball court at La Raza Park.
As someone who grew up in Montrose and regularly played here with friends, this is pretty cool. I'm excited to head back and play hoops.
Anybody up for a game of H-O-R-S-E? Send me a message at josuep@montrosepress.com.
I-70 updates: If you haven't been following the latest on I-70 and the closure's effects on U.S. 50, here are some key points:
• Governor Jared Polis and CDOT Director Shoshana Lew said the I-70 corridor in Glenwood canyon will reopen sometime Saturday afternoon. • Lew, during a briefing in Montrose on Tuesday, said it's "likely" full closure times for the Little Blue Creek Canyon Project travelers have experienced this past spring and summer will extend into next season. • The fixed completion date for the Little Blue Creek Canyon project will be adjusted in order to give the contractor additional time.
Census data: The United States Census Bureau released 2020 Census data today. Montrose County, from 2010 to 2020, grew 3.4%. Delta County grew 0.9%, and Ouray County increased by 9.9%. You can view more in-depth data for Colorado and other states through the data map viewer.
Protecting home course: The Montrose High School boys golf team protected home court (course?) at Black Canyon Golf Course Wednesday, capturing the first tournament victory of the season. Noah Richmond (above) led MHS with a one-under par 69. MHS was at Cobble Creek Golf Course today, and placed first again, edging out second-place Montezuma-Cortez by four strokes.
Golf is the first sport to get going this fall, but football, boys soccer, cross country and girls volleyball are set to start soon at MHS.
Montrose trivia: We have plenty of free NABUR T-shirts left, so feel free to send your answers to josuep@montrosepress.com.
