Good afternoon! Josue here. Notable news came out of Tuesday's Montrose City Council meeting. Three local mobile home parks — San Juan, Green Acres and Cottonwood — received permit approvals for proposed improvements.
Staff writer Cassie Knust's story offers a look at what residents at those parks can expect and the preliminary timeline for the improvements.
Enjoy retirement, Mike: After nearly four years as executive director of Welcome Home Alliance for Veterans, Mike Trickey is ready to retire. I met Mike on Memorial Day 2020 when I was reporting on the day's events. The American Legion Riders of Montrose honored fallen veterans at Valley Lawn Cemetery and later had a "22 run."
When we met, I learned Mike is kind, thoughtful and so clearly passionate to help the veterans in the community. It's why the resource center has become such a viable community resource.
Mike plans to stick around. He wants to continue on a volunteer basis at the resource center.
History made at The Bridges: If you haven't read Wednesday's coverage of the American Junior Golf Association, you're missing out on history — literally.
Zachery Pollo of California shot an 11-under-par 60 and went into today with a five-shot lead. But that 60 is a course record, besting Jeremy Lederer's and Justin Fox's previous record of 64.
At 13 under through 11 holes earlier today, Pollo positioned himself for a stupendous finish to cap his masterclass effort.
Montrose's Jordan Jennings, Noah Richmond, Connor Bell (above) and Jake Legg performed well, too, and improved their scores on Wednesday.
On Saturday, Aug. 7, expect live music, a variety of vendors and, obviously, all the corn you can eat.
The parade kicks off the event-packed day at 9 a.m. in downtown Olathe.
