Hey there, Montrose! It's Justin coming to you on this beautiful Monday as it's looking (and feeling) more and more like fall.

As we gear up for the Colorado autumn (the most beautiful of anywhere), I'm reminded of Halloween and everything spooky, football, and beautiful colors — especially toward the south.

Anna Lynn snapped this photo of a beautiful field of sunflowers at Devries Farm in Olathe:

Fall sports are here! Here are some highlights:

• The Olathe volleyballers notched a win in their season opener.
• The Montrose boys golf team is on a roll with three tourney wins so far this season.
A look at the MHS volleyball team and why their hitters may make a difference this season.
A QB battle is underway locally.
• A new look for Pirates football under HC Tyler Vincent?
• Could MHS soccer capture the league title?
• And... what fans can expect when it comes to capacity at sporting events.

Amid controversy in nearby Mesa County, around 250 protesters rallied in support of embattled County Clerk Tina Peters. While Peters was away at a voter fraud conspiracy-centered event in South Dakota, the Secretary of State's Office announced a probe into what it called a "serious breach" of voting security. The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reports Peters used a county credit card to purchase a plane ticket to the South Dakota event, but it's unclear whether she used the ticket, as she may have flown on a private jet.

IT'S NOT TOO LATE!
We're still gathering stories from you about 9/11 and the impression it left as we near the 20th anniversary. If you'd like yours included in a special section we're publishing, email me as soon as possible at justint@montrosepress.com. You can also fill out a simple form here.

Really cool photos of CDOT's work in Glenwood Canyon, where the agency cleared out more mud from recent mudslides, including at this drain along I-70. It's still tough-going at times as rain a couple days ago made for more trouble along the highway. CDOT reported pulling out 124 loads of mud and debris on Saturday and 104 on Sunday.
