Monday brings bad news

It is with sadness that we share Delta County Sheriff Mark Taylor's news that a Montrose man missing since late December was found deceased on Saturday.

Wayne Phillips, 51, who was last known to be hunting duck along the banks of the Gunnison River in Delta County, was reported missing Dec. 21. A massive search followed, but was called off due to conditions.

On Feb. 25, a hapless angler found his body, which authorities recovered. We extend our profound condolences to all of Mr. Phillips' loved ones, and our good thoughts to the angler, as well as to those involved in this search, for whom we also are grateful.

— Katharhynn from the newsroom, wishing there was better news.

Congrats to the Montrose Special Olympics team!

These athletes took on area peace officers in a friendly basketball match on Saturday, and handily won.
