Shooting for the top spot While I'm not our regular sports reporter, I do get called on from time to time to write features when we need to dig a little deeper than game-time coverage. This week, I got the chance to work on not one but two stories like this, and I love getting the chance to highlight the excellence of our local athletes. In tomorrow's paper, we have a story coming out about how the MHS soccer team has gone undefeated this year by playing hard, fast and selflessly. I got to interview 5 players, and I was so impressed by how much they all bought into the concept of putting the team first and how that's gotten them where they are this season, undefeated heading into round two of the playoffs. Looking north to Olathe, I just hopped off the phone with OMHS Archery Coach Jody Baugh, who plans to take 18 student athletes to the Championship Competition (formerly known as Worlds) in Florida early in June. The team had to qualify for the big event at the national competition, and it's a big, unique opportunity for all the hardworking student inovlved. We'll have more on that next week, but the team is already fundraising for the big trip. If you're looking to help the team, a group of alumni have already set up a GoFundMe to help the kids reach their $20,000 goal. For now, Go Red Hawks and Go Pirates!
