Did you see it?

Well, my bucket list opportunity came and went while I was on the Front Range this weekend. I'm talking about the aurora borealis, which put on a dazzling light show visible from Cedaredge, the Black Canyon, and other places in the region but not, alas, from my mother's light-polluted neighborhood in Colorado Springs, where to top it off, it rained relentlessly, so the skies weren't clear enough for viewing anyway.

But I know other people got a nice view, including in northern Colorado, Montana — and even in Wales, based on friends' Facebook feeds.

The northern lights, typically associated with places like Alaska or Iceland, were visible in Colorado and a whole lot of other places because of a massive solar storm. You can find out more about the solar storm here.

Although I am unabashedly jealous, I am taking delight in the beautiful photos others captured. Below is one from Taryn Hill, thoughtfully shared with us, showing the northern lights at the Black Canyon. Wonderful shot, Taryn! Thank you!

Not that I regretted seeing my mother ...

It was Mother's Day weekend, after all. And she was way better than even the best light show, it's just that she'd put a hurting on me if I published a photo of her!

If your mother is still with you, I hope you were able to spend some quality time with her. If she's gone on, I hope the beautiful memories are a comfort. I have the best mother. You have the best mother. Facts!

- Katharhynn from the Newsroom, giving a belated shout-out to all the mothers.
