Happy Tuesday friends, As you may know by now, each week I highlight some of our top news stories, local businesses and good news, as well as upcoming events. I like to think of myself as your local guide to what's happening around town. Of course, this community newsletter is for you. Are there ways we can improve these emails? You can reach me anytime at cassiek@montrosepress.com - Cassie Headlines Overtime loss to D'Evelyn ends Red Hawk's historic soccer season This loss in particular stings, but it certainly doesn't take away from the incredible, record-breaking season given to us by the Montrose Red Hawks girls soccer team this season. "We kept stressing that one play was going to be the difference," said Coach Matt Imus of the game. "We let them score on a corner kick where we had four opportunities to clear eight minutes into the game." The Northern lights put on quite a show for us this weekend Montrose skies were fairly cloudy over the weekend, so it may have been difficult for many of us to see the aurora borealis with just our wee little eyes. But local resident Taryn Hill captured this spectacular view of the lights from the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park! Were you able to catch a glimpse of the lights on camera? We'd love to see your photos! Send them our way to have them shared in the next newsletter and our socials. You can also post them on NABUR for the community to enjoy. The Montrose Veterans Memorial Plaza design has been scaled back Due to limitations with the initially planned location (Cerise Park), Montrose veterans are working with city and county officials to draw up a new agreement for the memorial. The memorial is intended to honor all branches of the military and commemorate all of America's major conflicts from WWI on. That is still the plan, it's just that the memorial is now to be created near the Montrose Pavilion, instead of in Cerise Park, and it will be smaller, with less concrete work and no walls, due to ever-climbing costs. Community Spotlight Meet Chuck, one of Montrose Animal Service's adorable (and hopefully temporary) residents On any given day scrolling the Montrose Animal Services social medias, you can be sure to meet a new animal in need of a home. Today, the shelter introduced us to Chuck, "a courageous, athletic, and intelligent male dog who adores giving kisses and receiving affection. He is a devoted and independent dog who prioritizes the safety of his loved ones." Thank you not only to Montrose Animal Services for taking care of our community's animals, but to everyone who lends a helping paw to our furry friends. Learn more about the shelter and how to adopt or volunteer on their website.
