One of many perks to being a staff writer for Montrose Daily Press is learning about people, organizations, and events that I may have never known about before. For these past two weeks I have been pleasantly overwhelmed by the arts here in town that I get to cover.

On March 3 I got to see the surreal work of the Montrose Area Woodturners and the Woodworkers Guild of Western Colorado at Montrose Center for the Arts First Friday gallery. As I passed wooden bowls and vases--even a wooden music box that I was too afraid to breathe on it was so lovely-- the piece that stopped me in my tracks was a bowl carved to look like a woven basket. I had to look at it for quite a few minutes to convince myself it really was made of wood. My coverage of the event can be found here.

Those of you attending the opening night of "Lost and Found in IKEA" at Magic Circle Players will see me there. After talking with one of the directors for the play this morning, I'm even more excited to cover the event. For those who can't make it this weekend the show will be running for three weeks, and you can read my coverage of opening night next week. Tickets for the event can be bought at Magic Circle Players website.

Hi, I am Rhiannon, one of the new staff writers for Montrose Daily Press. I cover the city and school district, and I love getting to cover the arts in town as well.

Art Lovers Lament...

Last week when I got a call from one of the members at Creative Corner I went from excitement to the news that they had a story for us to immediate devastation when I learned it was because the artisan co-op is closing in May.

Due to the selling of the building, people will have until May 31 to snag the art that has been catching their eye. A wave of comfort passes over those who enter the shop and realize they are surrounded by handmade scarves, wooden toys, along with pressed flower artwork, and I know I am not the only one saddened to hear of their closing...
