The new city hall building has as much history as the old one.

The new city hall has an old history Growing up in Montrose I always knew of the City Hall building located at 433 S. First St. as the 'Historic City Hall.' The chronicles of that brick building were always present and recognizable. On the other hand, the new city hall at 400 E. Main St. was always 'Wells Fargo on Main' in my mind. In fact, that was the bank where I got my first debit card and checking account as a teenager, and I frequently stopped in there over the next few years. When I heard the city had officially moved into the new location this Monday I was excited, and by Wednesday the city's deputy city manager Ann Morgenthaler was nice enough to give me a tour of their new hub. The mix of new renovations and old elements that the city decided to keep paint a wonderful picture of the building's history. After my discussion with Montrose County Historical Museum coordinator Sally Johnson, I learned this was the first time the building would be ran as something other than a bank. While this may be a bittersweet fact, memories of this history remain. My personal favorite are the bank vault doors that are still in use, protecting the city's records and pictured below. Last Thursday, I sat in for one of their virtual tournaments in the middle school gym, and I don't think I saw a single arrow miss the target. With each snap of the bow the number of arrows making it in that little tiny circle at the center of the target grew and grew. Olathe's archery team has a number of students heading to nationals this year. Their previous accomplishments are pretty mighty; the middle school team has won state five times and the high school team has won state consecutively for six years. Wanna win?
