| | Today I attended the Montrose Economic Development luncheon which was held at the Montrose Pavilion. Catered by The Stonehouse. Don Vincent and his team did a great job. Aside from the good food, the keynote speaker Jonathon Ballesteros, CEO of Geyser Systems, was entertaining. The company has made great strides since relocating to Montrose; it's grown quite a bit. In the beginning they were our neighbors, here on Kristen Ct, where our press facility is located. They had outgrown their space and for a time they used our outbuilding to store there assembled systems before they were shipped. I let Jonathon work out of there rent free. Mostly to be neighborly and I knew it was temporary. Eventually they moved out to 6450 Rd. Jonathon, spent most of his speech time giving a lesson about how to speak to employees during heated situations. Using his own failure as an example. Seems he was at a show in Kansas City. He has the power source for his display shipped ahead of time. But it ended up in San Francisco. Jonathon was hot. He called the employee who arranged the shipping to find out what happened. Where did he fail? Both hung up the phone upset with each other. Turns out the culprit was USPS but that wasn't discovered until Monday. Jonathon had to do some relationship repairing with an employee that he valued. It was a great lesson for all of us. Don't make assumptions and gather the facts before you react. I'll add one more. A lesson I learned from a former supervisor a long time ago. Give yourself 24 hours before you confront an employee. The Business of the year was awarded to Colorado Outdoors, Doug and David Dragoo. Sandy Head, as she gave the introduction before she called the Dragoos up to receive their award, became emotional, rightly so. There's been some negativity concerning Colorado Outdoors, the City of Montrose and MURA but take a look at the complex. It's coming together and it's quite impressive. I'm with the MEDC board and Sandy Head. It's time to celebrate the Dragoos and the City of Montrose on this one. Congratulations Doug and David! Thank you for reading, Dennis Anderson, Publisher
