Is there a kitty in the house?
Image

Why, yes. There is — at least, if you're talking about Montrose Animal Shelter.

The shelter, an adoption-only facility, relies on the public for its support, through city revenue, but also many kind volunteers to help the hardworking employees.

The calendar says it's spring; the shelter's calendar says it's "kitten season." That means the shelter is expecting an influx of cats, as unaltered cats start breeding like, er, rabbits. The shelter is going to need temporary homes for the litters and their mothers, so that it will be able to accommodate all the felines who need permanent homes.

One grown cat, Leo, went into fosterage last year: he'd been found severely injured and needed space to heal. Leo not only survived, but wound up getting a forever-family out of the deal. Go, Leo!

You can call the shelter at 970-240-1487 to inquire about the process of becoming a foster home. In addition to cats, the shelter at times fosters out dogs and puppies, too — so there's something for every interest!

If you can't foster, but maybe have a few hours a week, you can look into volunteering opportunities at the animal shelter. And, hey: You can also come meet a cat or dog to take home for keeps.

Here's a sampling of the gorgeous kitty friends waiting for you. (Shameless stream of cat photos follows!)

(I just wanted to scoop up Catnip and take her home! My feline overlord would disinherit me, though.)

(The cat is named CJ, and has the best "eyeliner"!)

(Angel is very silky. Apple-green eyes, too!)

(I missed this sweetheart's name, but she was eyeing the bird wand out of frame like a fierce hunter.)

("Glaring" held court in the cattery before hopping right off the chair to come greet me and talk. Did you know? A group of cats is called a "glaring." Another term for a group of cats is a "clowder.")
