If you have shoes in your closet, consider sharing your bounty for the ultimate benefit of those who don't have any for their feet. The Spiritual Awareness Center here in Montrose is collecting new or gently worn shoes to send to Soles4Souls, a nonprofit that gives shoes and clothing to those in need in the USA, as well as in the developing world, who hope to sell the shoes to support their families. The Rev. Arlyn Macdonald is heading it up. Read here for donation details.
The ultimate gift Once again, tragedy has struck. Ouray County public agencies today reported the death of Fort Collins resident Ryan Wong. Wong was found unresponsive at the Ouray Ice Park Feb. 24. He was pronounced dead March 1, and his body, which was kept alive artificially, was pronounced dead Friday, March 3. We extend our condolences to his family and friends, and on behalf of those who will receive his life-saving gift, gratitude. You can learn more about becoming an organ donor by visiting Donor Alliance at donoralliance.org. Other life-saving donations do not require a tragedy like the one above: most healthy adults can donate blood every two months or so. Reach out to your health care provider for individual advice and what to do. On a personal note: I routinely donated blood as a young adult, never imagining I would need it myself. About two years ago, though, I did. And to those anonymous donors, I say: Thank you. Wanna win?
