2,000 MPH: On this day in history in 1990 the SR-71 Blackbird S/N 61-7972 smashed the transcontinental speed record on its final flight from California to Washington DC traveling 2,124 MPH.
Pilot Lt. Cols. Ed Yielding and Reconnaissance Systems Operator Joseph Vida set a speed record flying from AF Flight Test Center Plant 42 in Palmdale, California, to DC in 1 hour, 4 minutes and 20 seconds. Most commercial flights take somewhere between 7 hours to over 12 hours to fly across the country.

Mourning, marching for their son: Kimberly Beck finds herself where no mother wants to be — mourning the loss of a son. But in memory of Charles "Gage" Lorentz, who was fatally shot by a National Park Service ranger at New Mexico's Carlsbad Caverns, Beck is turning her mourning into a march for change.
"It's been almost a year and we still have no answers on our son's killing," Beck said.
The family is hosting a march at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 13 — just one week shy of the anniversary of Lorentz's 2020 death.

Preserving Mexican-American heritage: The City of Montrose has been granted $25,000 from History Colorado to prepare a historic context survey to inform historic preservation efforts in Montrose's self-described Tortilla Flats neighborhood, located on the city's northwest side.
The project is an initiative of the City's Historic Preservation Commission (HPC).
Tortilla Flats enjoys a rich history, and the city is interested in diving deeper to uncover the depth of it's story.
