Biden says all adults should get vaccine by May, hopes for "normal" Independence Day: In his first prime-time address last night, President Joe Biden said that he would mandate states to expand vaccine eligibility to all American adults by May 1 and hopes that by July 4, we will achieve "independence from this virus."

Also, Biden signed the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Package into law last night. If you have direct deposit set up with the IRS, you can expect to receive your stimulus payment as early as this weekend.

House passes two background check bills: Yesterday, the House passed a bill that would mandate background checks on private gun sales and another that would close the "Charleston loophole" that extends the amount of time that the FBI can conduct an extended check.

Although most congressional Republicans opposed the legislation, three signed on as co-sponsors and five voted for the bill.

Boebert's story retold: On Wednesday, while testifying against the bill, Rep. Lauren Boebert repeated a story that has been proven false about a man that was beaten outside of her restaurant in Rifle.

Snowstorm coming to (parts of) the state: Coloradans along the Front Range and Eastern Plains are bracing for a massive snowstorm forecasted to dump multiple feet of snow.

Will we get any snow in Montrose? Probably, but not as much as in the eastern half of the state.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the Western Slope and eastern Utah but tomorrow's forecast calls for a chance of cold rain and snow.

OUTDOORS: The turn of a wrestling match
The afternoon sun is mellow like a song. The air is still, the sky is stark Colorado blue, and the quiet holds the crisp feel of winter. On snowshoes, I'm out looking for signs of spring along Black Canyon's Oak Flat Trail.

Animal tracks are plentiful, and more birds are flying in during the day, but I'm examining twigs; looking at buds. I wonder what promises they hold.

OUTDOORS: Most common outdoor injuries
When we take to the trails, we accept the inherent risk of a possible injury. Perhaps the subtle danger of our outdoor activity is part of the virile attraction to the great backcountry.
