Wind gusts destroyed tipi at Ute Indian Museum: On Monday night, a wind storm with gusts up to 58 miles per hour destroyed a large tipi in front of the museum in Montrose.

"It ripped it completely. Canvas was hanging up in the trees ... We have two tipis down. Our other tipis, they have survived the wind," Brafford said.

The museum is soliciting donations to replace the fallen tipi, which will need to be completely replaced. To donate, call the museum at 970-249-3098.

Montrose native search and rescue swimmer for Navy: Petty Officer 3rd Class Jenny Fuentes, a 2011 graduate of Montrose High School, is currently serving as an operations specialist and search and rescue (SAR) swimmer on the USS John S. McCain based in Yokosuka, Japan.

"I take a lot of pride in being an SAR swimmer," said Fuentes. "I want to step in and not only save people, but teach people about it and hopefully recruit more people into going into the SAR program."

Beef with MeatOut day: Last month, Gov. Jared Polis said that March 20 would be a statewide MeatOut day to encourage Coloradans to eat less animal products. Conservative organizations and industry groups have responded by declaring March 20 as "meat in" day.

Nebraska's governor announced a "Meat on the Menu" day in his state and the Colorado Cattleman's Association encouraged people "to meet in a restaurant and order your favorite meat dish, meet your family and friends for a meal featuring meat," according to their website.

Some Colorado ranchers are frustrated with Gov. Polis' proclamation, which comes as the latest event in a history of strained relations.
