Welcome back! Hi and hello, it's Cassie here as your newsletter curator today. It's a short work week for everyone, but we're back at it. I spent my July 4 at a cook-out, a nice drive to Ridgway and then indulged in some ice cream before enjoying the evening's fireworks!

City Council meeting: You can join city council members in the City Chambers tonight at 6pm for the City Council regular meeting. Agenda items include a number of resolutions involvingPAX (Public Art eXperience), historic property designations and housing plans. I'll be there with our newest staff writer, Anna Lynn, as we cover the meeting.

Today in history: In 1933, the first "All-Star" major league baseball game was held at Chicago's Comiskey Park. According to the History channel, the idea was conceptualized around bolstering the sport and its reputation during The Great Depression. It was actually meant to be a one-hit-wonder, "Game of the Century" event, but is now a permanent fixture in the sporting world.

New renting laws: Many Coloradans are having trouble making rent, so a new law may help protect renters as well as help them pay their landlords.
