Good afternoon, Montrose! This is Anna Lynn here.
I was born and raised in the City of Denver, where the closest I ever got to our agricultural system was the few times a year when cattle aromas wafted down from Greeley.
For the county fair special section that was published earlier this week, I profiled 14-year-old Garret Millsat for our county fair special section. Garret has been raising (and showing) livestock since a young age and showed both pigs and sheep at the county fair this week. He and his mother showed me around their farm outside of Montrose and it's been one of my favorite stories to write.
I've been in Montrose for only seven weeks and I've already been learning so much about life out here on the Western Slope that I never learned about when I was growing up. It's a shame, really — there may be miles of soaring peaks that separate the Front Range from the Western Slope, but at the end of the day, we're all Coloradans.
Spectators won't be limited at MHS sporting events: Josue has been itching to write about sports since the season ended in June, so he hopped on this sporty spin on the story that broke yesterday about how the school district is no longer requiring masks for students and staff. Student athletes are no longer required to wear masks while playing and there will no longer be capacity restrictions at Montrose sport events. The district will also not be requiring masks at indoor sporting events.
What do you think about the district's policy to make masks optional? Share your thoughts with editor@montrosepress.com.
Yikes! Over 100 people were stranded last night: Mudslides on I-70 last night in Glenwood Canyon not only closed the highway — which is expected to be shuttered through the weekend with more rain in the forecast — but trapped dozens of vehicles trying to get through.
Fortunately, nobody was injured, but some people are still waiting until more mud is cleared before they feel safe enough to traverse the highway.
Do you think this giant potato is real? I have my doubts... Yesterday afternoon, one of our ad reps, Lisa, came over to the newsroom and told us that she'd just gotten a tip about a giant potato parked by the McDonald's on Townsend by the southern City Market. I drove down there to see what the big deal was about. From afar, this does look like it could plausibly be a potato. But! I went up and knocked on the potato and it sounded hollow. Are potatoes supposed to do that? Also, how long can a potato plausibly travel around the country without going bad...? Anyway. Stay safe out there this weekend!
