What a week! Friday is here, and the weekend is upon us. After a hectic, but fun, Fourth of July weekend, I'm looking to take it easy and stay indoors. It's recommended, given the heat out. If you must get outdoors, head south toward alpine areas for good hikes. Justin here with your newsletter. I'll make it brief.

A year ago today, the World Health Organization acknowledged the possibility that COVID-19 can spread through air particles. We now know the coronavirus can live in the air up to 3 hours. Still, the WHO concluded at the time airborne transmissions don't play a significant role in the spread of the disease. They later admitted they were wrong.

Wandering wallaby? You may have already read about the Montrose County Sheriff's Office's daring pursuit of a wayward wallaby. It escaped from its owner and was reported by an observer of the animal. Katharhynn Heidelberg was shocked and confused last night when she heard on the police scanner a report of "a kangaroo or a wallaby." Authorities wouldn't tell us who the little guy belonged to — just that he was safely returned home. That's the wallaby pictured above.

Lastly, congrats to the winners of last week's t-shirt giveaway. Readers Robyn Funk, Svetla Iviela and Ralph Cox were the first to shoot me an email answering the question: what should Montrose High School adopt as its new mascot? Robyn gave a solid answer when she suggested the sports teams don the name "Scorpions." Svetla said "Eagles." And Ralph gave an original answer in "The Rocky Mountains." The school district will begin to decide the new mascot this winter. What do you think of those reader suggestions?
