Hi and hello! Cassie here with your Tuesday newsletter. I haven't been following the Olympics as closely as I have in previous years, but I do love to follow the gymnastics portion of the summer Olympics. Gymnastics legend Simone Biles twisted her ankle while attempting a mid-air spin. She withdrew immediately from the team competition to care for herself medically as well as mentally. Biles is known to push through the challenges, physical and emotional, but prioritized her mental health yesterday. It's not yet clear whether she will compete in the individual competition on Thursday, but we'll find out soon enough.

This is a good reminder that while success is rewarding, you can't balance life well without taking care of your mental health first. Whether that's balancing work, school, travel family and/friends, remember to take time for yourself!

Interior Secretary Deb Haaland visited: Our editorial team has been busy! Haaland joined Gov. Jared Polis, Rep. Joe Neguse and Lauren Boebert and Senators John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet on Friday at the Grand Junction airport to discuss fire mitigation and the possible BLM headquarters move.
Anna Lynn and Josue Perez drove out to Ridgway on Saturday to meet with county commissioners, Bennet and Hickenlooper at Top of the Pines to talk about the passage of the Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy (CORE) Act. Josue snapped this photo of the three visiting government officials on Saturday.

In case you missed it: Delta variant cases are rising everywhere, including in Montrose County. The new variant originated in India around March earlier this year and has been spiking around the globe. Unvaccinated folks are more likely to catch this variant in the new wave of cases, but doctors and disease experts are warning that soon enough, immunocompromised vaccinated people may need a booster shot.

Be sure to keep an eye out for updates.
