How was your Fourth? Katharhynn from the newsroom here spent hers at a cook-out and beating the heat by sitting neck-deep in the river. Montrose was out and about July 4, celebrating with a parade down Main Street, then last night, with a fabulous fireworks display — all very welcome to a pandemic-weary citizenry. Patriotism was on full display, reminding us of why we celebrate. And this young lady was running her feet off handing out treats! (Joseph Harold Photography)

Fire risk: Unfortunately, a property owner on Marine Road lost a shed to flames on Saturday. The Montrose Fire Protection District put out the blaze, but the structure was a total loss. Many thanks to Ken Kiehlbauch for sharing his photos. As always, if you have photos to share, or a news tip, email editor@montrosepress.com.

In case you missed it: Deputies respond to a disturbance on top Monarch Pass. Deputies are directed to a campsite and find ... pipe bombs? Yes, according to the Gunnison County Sheriff's Office, which last week arrested a man on suspicion of having the incendiary devices and grenades.

Way back when ... It was (maybe?) an itsy-bitsy, teenie-weenie bikini. On July 5, 1946, French designer Louis Reard unveiled the now iconic two-piece bathing gear in Paris. Ooo-la-la! Read more about the history of women's bathing costumes here.
