Happy Hump Day! Cassie here, dropping in for your daily newsletter curation. Did you know that the reason you turn down your music to "see better" is actually just your brain prioritizing incoming information? According to this interesting piece from News-Journal, the brain acts sequentially. It performs so quickly that we perceive it as multi-tasking.
After some research, however, studies found that people who are concentrating on a more visual task while trying to tune out audio have a significant decrease in responsiveness of the auditory nerves. Basically our brain is subconsciously turning down the volume!

The Colorado Attorney General stopped by: I snapped this photo of Phil Weiser last Thursday, who stopped through Montrose for a fundraiser held at Kevin Kuns' house, the Montrose County Democrat party chair. Weiser, who was first elected in 2018, is running for re-election and spoke on his goals for his next term should he be re-elected. So far, there isn't a GOP candidate who has declared a campaign.

In case you missed it: A fire broke out late last night on North Uncompahgre Ave.
Tad Rowan, the Montrose Fire Protection District Chief, said that investigations are ongoing. The blaze was brought under control at 11:20 p.m., but there's an estimated loss of $25,000 to the rental home and $3,000 in personal property, according to MFPD.

Today in history: In 1930, the Hoover Dam began construction, acquiring 21,000 workers by 1935, who went on to work on the largest dam of its time.
