Good afternoon newsletter fam! It's Josue here, back at the office after spending the morning inside the JC Penney building in Montrose (which is pretty close to empty), where various items are being liquidated. People were up early to grab items like shelves and desks, and some local business owners, too, rolled out shelves for their own stores. The liquidation has a good cause, with organizers requesting donations to Montrose's two food banks, Sharing Ministries or Shepherd's Hand. If you missed out today, you can still stop by Friday (8 a.m. - noon).
Help wanted: I stopped by Montrose High School on Wednesday, where local school bus drivers were waving signs to passersby. Sharon Smith, a long-time driver for STA, told me the local school district is really in need of new drivers. Veteran drivers Donald Bowen (holding the sign), Jaimee Plush, Tonia Wallace and Kenny Sanburg (all in the background in the photo above) were raising awareness at MHS. For more information on the gig, you can contact Smith at 970-275-7631.
Singing the tunes: Event sponsor Welcome Home Alliance for Veterans and Freedom Sings USA Colorado hosted the 2nd Annual Community Concert at The Bridges last night. It was a pretty packed crowd (at least 100) on hand to watch (left to right) Steve Dean, Bobby Tomberlin, Hunter Girl, Bill Whyte and Donovan Chapman perform a series of songs.
They did a great job, and the crowd was really into it. It was a good way to spend a warm, summer evening.
If you weren't able to attend, don't worry, you can watch a replay of the performance on Facebook, recorded live on Welcome Home Alliance's Facebook page.
Running out of gas: I stopped by City Market last week to fill up on gas for my car, but was pretty surprised to see that the gas pumps — well, there was no gas in any of them. Apparently, it happened again today.
An article by FOX 31 reported it's due to a driver shortage.
