Hey there, Montrose! Cassie here with your newsletter curation. There's been a lot going on, including some cooler, rainy weather! The Texan in me is loving this Speaking of water: Montrose residents like the Scriffiny family showed up to the city's open house and tour of the new water tower on Monday. The more you know: I don't know about you, but mosquitos have been targeting me lately, so this comes as a little timely FYI. You probably already know that scratching an itch just makes it worse, but did you know why? According to this interesting bit, scratching an itch may initially provide relief, but it releases a brain-signaling chemical in response to the scratching. Because scratching causes mild pain, neurons in the spinal cord transfer pain signals instead of itch signals to the brain. But that's not all. After that pain signal is sent, serotonin is released, masking the pain. The end result is an increased amount of itching sensations.
What's to come of the last federal stimulus funds for the county? Anna Lynn spoke with Cindy Dunlap, the finance director for the county, about what the plans are for the allocated $8.3 million from the American Rescue Plan.
