Hi and hello! Cassie here with your daily newsletter curation.

I was able to chat with pianist David Korevaar today and as always, it was fascinating hearing a musician's perspective on life. David has earned several accolades and has taught master classes all over the world, including Brazil, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and even the Afghanistan National Institute of Music in Kabul.

Korevaar is also a professor at the University of Boulder where he teaches piano. He believes that successful teaching involves learning from his students.

He will be performing at the Montrose Pavilion next Sunday (Sept. 19) at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15 online.

Korevaar's performance will feature works of Beethoven, Chopin and Liebermann and will conclude with the recently rediscovered Sonata in E Minor by Florence Beatrice Price.

Keep an eye out for the full story tomorrow!

Tortilla Flats residents attended a MADA forum last Friday: Last Friday I had the chance to attend the MADA-hosted forum for Tortilla Flats residents. The forum was a "roundtable" that gave residents a platform to share their oral history of the neighborhood for the preservation survey currently underway.

The survey, conducted by the architectural and historical preservation survey team at Logan Simpson, will determine through oral interviews and historical data which of the four historical designation titles the neighborhood fits (federal, state, county, local).

The City of Montrose was previously granted $25,000 in March from History Colorado after the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) initiated efforts to prepare a historic context survey.

Residents were eager to share their stories and have their voices heard. They described the neighborhood as diverse, accepting, tight-knit and family-oriented. They hope that a designation will bring attention to the neighborhood as well as solutions to issues such as a lack of sidewalks.

Montrose real estate market is going strong: Staff writer Anna Lynn's most recent report for the real estate market shows that the market growth rate has slightly slowed in August.

"The number of sold listings in Montrose County this August declined compared to July 2021, from 99 to 68. In August, less than two months' supply of inventory was on the market, which is much less than the 3.2 months in August of last year but a marked increase from May 2021, when the market only had 1.3 months available."

Delta commissioners joined the redistricting conversation: Delta County Commissioners held a special meeting on Aug. 30 to review and consider community comments regarding the Colorado Independent Redistricting Commission's preliminary legislative redistricting maps for House District 53 and 55 and Senate District 6 and 7.

Tasty: Did you know that without saliva, you wouldn't be able to taste your food? Crazy!

Taste buds are responsible for your sense of taste, but without the enzymes in your saliva to break down the structure and release the molecules in your food, it's just a tasteless dining experience. Once molecules are released, your taste buds' receptors can then do their job of identifying the flavors.

What are some trails in the forests that need work?
The forest service will be working (or has already started working) on Dallas Trail, Coal Creek Trail, Sun Park Trail and Trail Riders Trail. The projects "focus on improving conditions on forest and rangelands, reducing wildfire risk and increasing the resiliency of our nation's forests for present and future generations."

Are there any trails in the GMUG forests that you think could use some future work?
