Happy Wednesday! Cassie here with your daily newsletter curation. Over the Labor Day weekend, I was able to experience my first camping trip after moving here last year. The views at Buckhorn Lakes Park were beautiful but it was a little too cold for me (temps dropped to freezing). Other than that, I'd say it was a fun success!
Now on to the news!
COVID is spreading through schools: Nearly 300 students and staff in the Montrose County School District are quarantined according to the school district's COVID dashboard. This report comes less than three weeks after students returned to school. District spokesperson Matt Jenkins told staff writer Anna Lynn Winfrey that the district didn't expect the pandemic to be over, but they didn't know to what degree it would or would not spread.
The school district currently has no plans for a temporary mask mandate.
MMH reported case numbers: Mondays and Fridays, I correspond with Montrose Memorial Hospital's Chief Marketing Officer Leann Tobin to get a glimpse at current case numbers in the hospital.
Yesterday (Sept. 7) Leann reported that the hospital is caring for three COVID patients. Two are in the ICU and one is in the Medical/Surgical Unit.
We kicked off Mo-Town Knows: Staff writer Josue Perez kicked off our newest segment by sitting down (virtually) with Montrose High School football players Ethan Hartman and Austin Griffin. The three had a great conversation about the 2021 football season.
Today in history: Michaelangelo's "David" was unveiled to the public in 1504. The marble statue stands at 17 feet tall and weighs a whopping 12,000 pounds. The masterpiece was unveiled in Florence, Italy in the Piazza della Signoria.
