Good afternoon, Montrose! This is Anna Lynn bringing you this newsletter as we wrap up a whirlwind of a week.

Last Saturday, I got the amazing opportunity to fly up in a plane with the Golden Knights, the Army's professional parachute jumping team. I was double-belted into my seat right next to the gaping open door as we circled around the city of Montrose at the same height as Colorado's highest mountains. I'll never forget seeing Montrose and the Black Canyon from above and watching the men gleefully jump out of the plane.

You can read my interview with one of the jumpers and a big collection of photos in tomorrow's focus section. In the meantime, I hope you all have a wonderful start to your weekend.

Want to start a new gaming business in town? You're out of luck: The Montrose City Council has passed a temporary moratorium on any new adult gaming businesses in town and placed restrictions on existing business, citing a "clear and present danger" to the public.

The moratorium buys the city time to further research what restrictions and enforcement might be permanently put into place. It was approved at an emergency meeting Tuesday, Sept. 21, following a lengthy work session discussion the morning before.

In case you missed it: Yesterday morning, a man hit three horses with his pickup truck on U.S. 550 in Ouray County and needed to call an ambulance.

Well, that ambulance struck another horse on the way to the hospital, so another one had to come and take the man the rest of the way.

This sounds like it could be a plot on an episode of Grey's Anatomy to me. Read the rest of the story here.

Best of the Valley results are in!

We received nearly 11,000 total nominations and over 45,000 votes for business in 135 categories.

Congrats to all of the winners, including the Montrose County Fair and Rodeo for the best annual event and San Juan Brews for the best ambiance. Read the full list of winners (and nominees) here.
