Montrose has 10 months to change two mascots, but funding source is unclear:

The state mandated this change, but the funding source cited in the bill would not be available to school districts until after the changes need to be made by June 2022. Moreover, projects to fund replacing mascot-branded infrastructure are deemed a lower priority than other applications.

The governor also expressed concern about the funding apparatus in a statement he sent to the General Assembly upon signing the bill — he urged legislators to consider other ways to help out the two-dozen-or-so schools around the state that need to make this change. His office may also be working on a solution, but final details are unclear.

Anna Lynn has been following this story that means a lot to the community since she arrived two and a half months ago, and she'll be following this closely and reporting the latest updates throughout the process. Read the full story here!
