Happy Tuesday! Cassie here with your daily newsletter curation.

Did you know people can smell colors? Well, sort of. Synesthesia is a rare neurological condition in which individuals (synesthete) can experience multiple senses while using one of their senses. For example, a synesthete may be able to consistently see patterns of swirling blue when they smell a taco.

Around 3-5% of the population experiences this phenomenon with women statistically higher to be synesthetes.

There's a COVID outbreak at the community corrections center: More than 20 positive COVID tests were recorded in the last two weeks among staff and clients at Advantage Treatment Center, making the local community corrections facility an outbreak site, according to state criteria.
The Montrose center hopes to be COVID-free within a week to 10 days. A "resolved" status would require 14 days of no new positive tests following the isolation period.

MMH COVID-19 patient data: Montrose Memorial Hospital's Chief Marketing Officer Leann Tobin reported that as of 6 a.m. Monday morning, staff was caring for six patients with COVID-19. Four were in the ICU and two were in the Med/Surgical unit of the hospital.

You can catch up on Saturday's COVID Roundup here.

Old West fest is returning to Ridgway: I was able to speak with Ed Bovy, an organizer for the 2nd annual Ridgway Old West Fest, about the many activities planned for this week's festival. The event will start this Friday and run through Sunday, full of educational lectures, shows, location tours from when film legend John Wayne was in Ridgway and lots more.

Tickets are cheaper in advance, just a heads up! Right now, you can buy them online for $25 for adults and $5 for children. Tickets purchased at the door are $30 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under. These tickets include entry to all festival events.

What are some trails in the forests that need work?
The forest service will be working (or has already started working) on Dallas Trail, Coal Creek Trail, Sun Park Trail and Trail Riders Trail. The projects "focus on improving conditions on forest and rangelands, reducing wildfire risk and increasing the resiliency of our nation's forests for present and future generations."

Are there any trails in the GMUG forests that you think could use some future work?
