Good afternoon! Josue here with today's newsletter.
I was able to attend the Morada presentation last night at the Ute Indian Museum, which had a full crowd and an abundance of history and information to dive into.
Chris Trujillo, Matt Landt and Fernando Morales (seen below) led the presentation. Their knowledge of the Morada and what they've learned actually helped one attendee learn more about her own family history.
Check out the full story in tomorrow's paper!
Saddle up: The Ridgway Western Heritage Society is prepping for its second annual Old West Fest this weekend.
Part of the society's mission for West Fest is to help keep the town's heritage alive. Movie showings, a horse show, karaoke and contests and prizes are on tap.
Four decades of service: Paul Zaenger, supervisory park ranger at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park since 1993, is wrapping up his near four decades of park service Oct. 2. MDP contributor Stephen Woody spoke with Paul about the start to his park service career, effects from the pandemic on Black Canyon visitation, dark skies, his plans post-retirement and more. (Paul also writes an outdoors column for the MDP.) Paul last night was at the Morada presentation taking notes and soaking up information. As Paul said best in Steve's article, "The human mind should always be on the march."
The results are in: Best of the Valley results have been revealed, so if you haven't yet, you can check out the local winners here. If your one of the winners but haven't received your certificate, stop by the MDP office at 3684 N. Townsend to pick it up!
