An evening of poetry and vulnerability

Thursday evening at Bluecorn Cafe & Mercantile was the perfect place to center myself after a busy day.

With the lights turned low and candles flickering across tables at the faces of writers and poetry lovers, the energy when walking through the doors of the candle factory was instantly comforting. A poetry reading can do that to you.

I was blessed enough to talk to the reading's featured poet, Wendy Videlock, Wednesday morning. We discussed her introduction to poetry (William Butler Yeats), the poetry workshop she hosted prior to the evening's reading, and the meaning of names.

After she read some of her work and favorite poems, she opened the stage up for other artists. Performances included a song from an original play as well as a comedy sketch entitled "I Don't Like Kombucha."

Needless to say, it was a pleasure to be in a room with such talent and vulnerability.

Hi, I am Rhiannon, one of the new staff writers for Montrose Daily Press. I cover the city and school district, and I love getting to cover the arts in town as well.

A crafty weekend

The weather for this weekend, fingers crossed, looks the opposite of nasty, and there appears to be another craft show at Friendship Hall starting today and ending tomorrow, Saturday the 8th, at 4 p.m.

If you're anything like me (someone who starts a dozen different projects to only finish one) this weekend's Flea Market Craft Show is dangerous.

However, will I still be there? Of course.

Plus, I heard rumors that the New Orleans-flavored food truck, Momma T's Bayou Bites, just might be there to serve fresh jambalaya and funnel cake. How can one refuse?
